Jal Sanchaya: A Joint Program of Gramonnati and TERI for low-cost roof-top rain-water harvesting tanks in Rajouri and Poonch Districts

08 Dec 2018: Rajouri, J&K

Gramonnati has partnered with TERI for setting up low-cost rooftop rainwater harvesting solutions in remote areas of Rajouri and Poonch Districts of J&K. In this program, we are working closely with local Army and BSF units.

The typical solution costs less than Rs. 15,000/- per tank of about 12,500 liters’ capacity and takes about a week to complete from the survey, design, material procurement, digging of tank and implementation.

The TERI team that has been working on it are experts having deployed over 50 such solutions in Uttarakhand in last few years.

Three local youth, selected as Udyam Trainees for Gramonnati’s Path-to-Entrepreneurship Program, are being trained by the TERI team to eventually take up these projects all by themselves as they are developed into rural entrepreneurs for water solutions.

In last one month, we have completed five such low-cost rainwater harvesting solutions. Over the next six months, with active support from all local stakeholders, Gramonnati and TERI teams aim to train local youth and deploy these solutions in over 100 locations in villages, schools, and similar community sites.
